It’s Difficult for Everyone

Your job is to find a job or create a job by starting a business, or to go off in a completely different direction. But your time needs to be applied to planning and acting to find a meaningful work life.

A few people almost fall into their next role and that’s great, but it doesn’t happen very often. Some people, for very good reasons, take an unsatisfactory option. Most people have to work hard and diligently to find something which suits them.

Of course, the more flexible you are, the more prepared you are and the more professional you are, the greater the chances of success.

Independent Support

So people who care about you want to help, and that is great. However, the inputs you receive may be contradictory and confusing. We all have opinions, not everyone has knowledge.

Professional and, crucially, independent support, will take out the emotion and add experience to your quest for a purposeful future.

To quote Red Adair, “If you think it is expensive to hire a professional, wait until you hire an amateur”. This is your life, your future, and the future of your family which is being addressed. This is crucial, so approach it as professionally as you would a project in the workplace.

Everyone Needs Help

You may be confident or shy, you may be resilient or naïve, but if you are reticent to accept or look for help, think again.

A critical friend or willing guide will be an invaluable source of support. It is Rumsfeldian to acknowledge we don’t know what we don’t know.

We occasionally see someone refusing outplacement help because it is the company that is funding it. They despise the organisation so much that they refuse the available guidance; a metaphorical case of biting off your nose to spite your face.

It is a truism that most often people are only too keen to give someone in difficulties their time and thoughts. Choose wisely but do accept help as the whole process will be smoother and success will come more quickly.

It’s Difficult Writing about Yourself

It’s Difficult Writing about Yourself

Frequently, we hear people say how difficult it is to create their own CV or complete application forms. For some, there is too much information to crystallise into a compact form. For others, they don’t know what to write; they do their job, what else is there to say? Some people are reticent to feel as if they are bragging, their natural style is at odds with .

The section on our site dealing with these issues will be very helpful, but if there is one simple tip to think about properly, it is using examples. It is the same in interviews, be able to illustrate your statements with descriptions of the ways you have applied yourself.

The Effect of Not Knowing

The Effect of Not Knowing

Perhaps the worst time in a redundancy process is after its announcement, but before it is known who will be the ‘victims’. Speculation and gossip abound, it affects people’s output, it worries everyone even though only a percentage will be impacted.

Nobody wants to be seen to consider the alternatives in case it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. People are also concerned that if they find another job any release payments will be withheld.

If the possibility of job loss is discussed at home, this vacuum will be having a compounding effect. Yet the earlier the individual begins to plan for the future with, perhaps, a job hunt, the better the chances of creating a better future.

Family Impact when a Job is Lost

When a job is lost it isn’t only the redundant person affected. The effects are across the family, even the children. It is the not knowing that hurts most.

Tensions may rise and the outcomes are occasionally dramatic. Everyone wants to see progress and being able to monitor activity by being a member of our online website demonstrates it.

We must not underestimate the pain the whole family feels, how concerned our friends are for us and the support which is there, if we ask for it.
